8 String E7 Lap Steel Tuning
These lap steel tabs and songs were played on an 8 string Excel Jerry Byrd frypan lap steel. All recordings used a Boss RV-5 set on hall reverb, a Fender black face Vibro-Champ amp and a Shure
SM-57 mic. Everything was recorded onto a Zoom R24 then ported to a PC for mastering using Reaper. See my separate Excel frypan page for more details n the guitar! The tabs below are my
own creation as I have no previous experience with the E7 tuning and have not sought training on it elsewhere. I started with this tuning simply because it fit the gages of strings that came
on the guitar when I bought it used in 2011. I'll probably try out the E13 (6th + 7th + maybe a 9th note) next and likely go back to the high C6th tuning that I am most familar with and that fits the
style of music I most like to play. If I had a 3 or 4 neck lap steel I think this E7 tuning would be cool for doing some retro country stuff. The tabs do include some bar bends and string pulls from
behind the bar which greatly extend the chords and double stops that can be played.
